Izumo-Taisha is one of the most important and the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan. It is dedicated to Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, who is known as the Shinto deity of marriage. It is said that the shrine has been a center of worship since mythological times. The main hall of the shrine is constructed in a purely Japanese architecture style known as taish-zukuri. It is designated as a national treasure. In the tenth month of the year, all the divinities nationwide are believed to assemble in the shrine.
